Colorado Right to Life

Resolution on Vaccines from Aborted Human Tissue

Passed unanimously on September 24, 2005

WHEREAS, Colorado Right to Life believes that all human life is precious and should be equally protected under the law from fertilization to natural death; and

WHEREAS, many live vaccines are grown on cell-culture lines obtained from tissue acquired from electively aborted humans; and

WHEREAS, the use of these vaccines provides financial incentive and support for further research and vaccine development using aborted babies; and

WHEREAS, the aborted fetal cell lines are not immortal and additional tissue from other aborted babies are being used to create new vaccines; and

WHEREAS, as the National Institutes of Health has acknowledged, “The possibility for using fetal tissue in research and transplantation might constitute motivation, reason or incentive for a pregnant woman to have an abortion”; and

WHEREAS, if there were no market for products and vaccines produced in immoral manners, there would be no incentive for researchers, investors, or politicians to support them; and

WHEREAS, vaccine alternatives are available that are not grown on aborted fetal cell lines. (e.g., The Takahashi Rubella, rabies, polio, measles, and mumps); therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that Colorado Right to Life oppose the development and production of vaccines using tissues acquired from aborted humans and promote education about any available vaccines grown on tissues not acquired from aborted humans; and be it further

RESOLVED, that Colorado Right to Life support the efforts to bring ethical alternatives to the public and encourage American vaccine manufacturers to develop alternative vaccines grown on cell lines which are not byproducts of abortion; and be it further

RESOLVED, that Colorado Right to Life encourage the Food and Drug Administration to move with all deliberate speed on evaluating and approving ethical vaccines; and be it further

RESOLVED, that Colorado Right to Life support the rights of parents and medical professionals to refrain from using or dispensing aborted fetal cell line vaccines; and be it further

RESOLVED, that Colorado Right to Life support the proposed Fair Labeling and Informed Consent Act to require that labeling indicate if vaccines are created using aborted fetal cell lines and that medical professionals must obtain informed consent from parents or patients before using such vaccines.
