Perhaps the most damning evidence comes directly from the Coriel Cell Repository Report on why IMR-90 and IMR-91 were created in the first place.  To read the story in their own words, go to: http://www.cogforlife.org/imr90CoriellFullReport.pdf

Cell Repository

To facilitate aging research on cells in culture, the NIA provides support for the NIA Aging Cell Repository located at the Coriell Institute for Medical Research in Camden, NJ. Included are skin fibroblast cultures from individuals with premature aging syndromes, including Werner and Hutchinson-Guilford (progeria), and cultures from clinically documented and at-risk individuals from families exhibiting familial Alzheimer's disease. Also available are human fibroblasts from female (IMR-90) and male (IMR-91 and MRC-5) fetal lung tissues. WI-38 female diploid lung cells are available at early, middle, and late population doubling levels. Cultures of animal origin include skin fibroblasts from a variety of species of nonhuman primates, bovine and equine endothelia, smooth muscle and fibroblast cultures, and canine and porcine endothelial cell cultures. The repository also has prepared DNA from many of the cell lines, available individually or in panels such as the Primate DNA panel, Aging Syndrome DNA panel, Characterized AD mutation DNA panel, Early and Late Onset AD DNA panels, and Aged Sib Pairs DNA panel. The catalog for the Aging Cell Repository is available at http://locus.umdnj.edu/

IMR-90

NORMAL HUMAN FETAL LUNG FIBROBLAST

The IMR-90 line was established on 7/7/75 using explants of minced lung tissue obtained from a clinically normal 16 week fetus. The karyotype is 46,XX; normal diploid female. No variant isoenzyme patterns found for lactate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase; G6PD is isoenzyme type B. The HLA type is A2, B12, BW40, B5. Reverse transcriptase was not detected. The maximum number of population doublings achieved to senescence range from 58-73. Earlier passage IMR-90 cells available only with permission of NIA: see guidelines in Science 196:60-63 (1977).

IMR-91

 NORMAL HUMAN FETAL LUNG FIBROBLAST

The IMR-91 lung-derived line was initiated on 2/24/76 from explants of minced tissue of both lungs from an approximately 12 week fetus. The cell morphology is fibroblast-like. The karyotype is 46,XY; normal diploid male. The reported number of population doublings achieved to senescence range from 49 to 76. The HLA typing is A2, A11, B18 and B5. G6PD is isoenzyme type B and 6PGD is isoenzyme type A.
