M. Mott, Chief Executive Officer Dear Mr. Mott, I am writing to ask you to reconsider your decision to use PER C6 as the cell substrate for your new flu vaccine. Not only is it unnecessary to use this cell line in doing so, your company image portrays a lack of concern for the sanctity and dignity of human life. It is really no different than the action of Nazis who performed experiments on the murdered Jews during the holocaust. A helpless segment of society was targeted and used as a commodity for the benefit of others then, just as the remains of these babies are being used today. And while we understand the need for new and effective treatments for infectious disease, such products should only be developed using the highest ethical standards. Mr. Mott, as a parent, I believe that no one should have to compromise their moral or religious beliefs in order to protect their families. And as it stands today, thousands of families are refusing to use vaccines that utilize aborted fetal tissue. Where there are alternatives, we are using them. If you use PER C6 when there is a perfectly ethical alternative for the flu vaccine, a large number of people will refuse your new vaccine. It doesn’t make good business sense. Please commit your utmost attention to this matter. If not for the sake of our American society, you owe this at least to your shareholders who will certainly not be receiving as large a return on their investment as they might have hoped. As parents, we will stand behind you if you make the right decision. Please give serious consideration to my request. Sincerely, |
