Dear Mr. Clark,

According to Merck's Mission Statement: "Our business is preserving and improving human life. All of our actions must be measured by our success in achieving this goal. We value, above all, our ability to serve everyone who can benefit from the appropriate use of our products and services, thereby providing lasting consumer satisfaction.

Sir, when you use aborted fetal cell lines to manufacture vaccines, not only are you NOT preserving human life, you are certainly not serving the needs of a large percentage of the population. I am asking you to live up to your own words and listen to the voice of the American public, pleading with Merck to discontinue this practice and provide us with morally acceptable alternatives.

As parents we are fully supporting your single dose Mumpsvax, Attenuvax and other vaccines that are using ethical substrates in cultivation.  However, we do not support Meruvax, Varicella or the new HIV vaccine currently in clinical trials, which utilizes the PER C6 Crucell N.V. aborted fetal cell line.

We know you have the capability to produce the vaccines using alternatives.  Please understand that we want to protect our families from infectious disease, but not if it means violating our moral and religious beliefs. Abortion is wrong. Supporting companies that use the remains of these innocent human beings as mere research projects or worse, to inject our children with vaccines grown on their remnants is nothing short of cannibalism..

If you would agree to begin using ethical cell substrates in vaccine production, we will support you in every way possible, including pressuring the NIH for the research funds.   It is that important to us.  In closing, I should like to quote from your founding father, John Merck who said “we have always sought to do the right thing for the right reasons.”  This is the right thing – this is the right reason.  Please take the time to give serious consideration to our request.  Thank you for your kind attention.

Sincerely,
